A study of seroprevalence and the associated risk factors of hepatitis C at a tertiary care hospital in Mumbai

BackgroundHepatitis C is a hepatotropic virus and shows varied presentation of signs symptoms in positive cases. The estimated global prevalence hepatitis around 1%. There lack data general population India on C, except targeted like blood banks.Aims & objectivesThe study was conducted at tertiary care hospital to estimate seroprevalence both sexes different age groups, association with symptoms, possible risk factors for the transmission co morbidities.MethodA prospective, cross-sectional period one year (2018–2019) included 600 subjects hospital. A detailed history patient recorded. Five milliliter collected testing Hepatitis by ELISA test. Results were analyzed statistically.ResultHepatitis 1.8% observed present study. It predominantly seen group 0–10yrs (7%). Significant multiple transfusions (38.5%). Thalassemia statistically significant comorbidity (1.5%) associated C.ConclusionHepatitis found more prevalent 0–10year thalassemic group.
